The Case of the Fox Spirit Curse In this Asian-themed urban fantasy/mystery novel, an aggrieved fox spirit who calls herself The Powerful Madam wants to carry out a century-old curse. She plans to kill the chief of Onn Province and destroy a temple whose first abbot infuriated her. A Half Immortal with Supernormal Power and her special team are recruited to foil the evil plan. On Pingonn Island, The Powerful Madam manipulates a grief-stricken Chinese physician into carrying out her plot to kill a province chief. In exchange, the fox spirit promises to resurrect the Chinese physician’s deceased wife. The fox spirit also controls a well-connected Cantonese opera singer to assist the Chinese physician. The singer recruits young boys for the ‘Young Immortals’ plot devised by the Chinese physician. The first wife of Pingonn Island chief, the fox spirit is furious that her husband has divided Pingonn Island into two provinces between his three sons, including the children of his second wife. She wants to reclaim the given territories only for her own descendants. Half Immortal Kim and her special assistants – a psychic, talking parrot and a telepathic cat – work covertly to uncover and foil the fox spirit’s evil plot. They are assisted by a private investigator. In a secret operation, Kim communicates with unhappy spirits trapped by the Chinese physician. She hypnotises a woman who knows the details of the ‘Young Immortals’ plot. Meanwhile, she has to keep her identity from a shrewd, helpful fortune teller who feeds her information.
